The Institute for Strategic Studies and Prognoses (ISSP), as the national coordinator for Montenegro, presented the findings of the 11th round of the European Social Survey (ESS ERIC) at an Info Day held today at the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro. The event, organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, also served to announce the start of preparations for Montenegro’s participation in the 12th round of this important international research initiative.
The event was opened by Ms. Marica Melović, Director General of the Directorate for Scientific Research and Montenegro’s representative in the ESS ERIC General Assembly. She highlighted the significance of Montenegro’s full membership in ESS ERIC since 2023, which allows direct access to advanced research infrastructure and opportunities for deeper integration of national research efforts within the European scientific community.
On behalf of the national coordination team, Professor Jadranka Kaluđerović, director at ISSP, presented the key results of the 11th round. She emphasized that the survey was conducted in line with the highest international methodological standards, achieving a response rate of 59%. The collected data is now publicly available and offers valuable insights for academic research, policy-making, and broader societal analysis. Of particular importance is the full comparability of Montenegro’s data with that of other European countries.
Also addressing the audience, Professor Nataša Krivokapić from the University of Montenegro underlined the utility of ESS as a free and methodologically robust data source with applications in science, education, civil society, and the design of evidence-based public policy. She drew special attention to online tools such as the ESS EduNet and Data Portal, which support learning and research, especially among early-career scholars.
The 12th round of the survey, for which ISSP will again serve as national coordinator, is scheduled to be conducted between September 2025 and May 2026. It will employ a mixed-method approach, combining face-to-face interviews and self-completion questionnaires. This work will be funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, which continues to provide strategic support to the project through institutional, financial, and logistical backing.
ISSP’s coordination role in the ESS ERIC project reflects its longstanding commitment to strengthening evidence-based research and enhancing Montenegro’s contribution to European social science.
